Creeping sharia update

Recall that more than two years ago a couple of Moslem fanatics threatened the creators of South Park with the same fate as Theo Van Gogh, who had his throat cut by a Moslem crackpot back in 2004. (Van Gogh's offense to the "religion of peace" was exposing in a film the systematic abuse of women in Moslem communities.)

Their threat was successful, as Comedy Central censored the episode that allegedly insulted Mohammed. Only Phil Bronstein and I wrote about that successful attempt of these religious fanatics to bully the media. Recall too that only District 5 Diary  in the local media has published the Mohammed cartoons the Islamic fanatics rioted over in early 2006 resulting in 100 deaths. (Bruce Brugmann explained the Bay Guardian's timidity. Beyond Chron and the rest of the "alternative" media were silent.)

I wouldn't have learned of the latest development in the Comedy Central censorship episode---the sentencing of one of the would-be terrorists---if I didn't read the NY Times every day, since there was nothing about it in either the Chronicle or the Examiner.

What's odd about even the NY Times story is that it's only a rewrite of an Associated Press story. The media is kidding itself if it thinks this issue is going away.

Central Subway boondoggle rolls on

The State of California is cutting salaries of state workers, eliminating welfare benefits for the unemployed, eliminating health insurance for low-income children, and city schools have a $30 million deficit, but the state will still give San Francisco $61 million for the Central Subway!
