Just talk: It's about the money
A letter to the editor in today's Chronicle:
City punishes drivers
The Municipal Transportation Agency can try to sugar-coat it, but there is no doubt that they are fleecing and punishing those who drive cars ("Next site for more metered parking: zoo," City Insider, July 30).
This policy disproportionately hurts the working poor, who are less likely to have garages and more likely to need their vehicles to carry tools and supplies for work. The cost of feeding the meter eats away at their income, and a single ticket could wipe out a day's wage.
The city leaders say they want to make it affordable for working class residents, but that is obviously just talk.
