A petition: Reopen JFK Drive in Golden Gate Park

The Richmond District is Shut Out from the East End of GG Park. Seniors are Shut Out. The Disabled and the Handicapped are Shut Out. Visitors from Out of Town, AND from Across Town are Shut Out. Large Families wanting to Picnic are Shut Out. Museum goers are Shut Out. The Pandemic Closure has gone on Too Long. Reopen the Park!
Why is this important?
Bicycles, Cars, and Pedestrians can easily coexist, as before, without problems, as the Bike Lanes, Sidewalks, and Roadways are already in place. ... To create the 'dreamy no-car' Parkland requires extensive planning and greatly revised infrastructure, (which has Not been done), so No One is Shut Out of our beautiful Park.
It makes No Sense to give away the urban Eastern end of the park to the 8% who Bike, while Shutting Out the 30% who Can Not Bike, and causing the Museums and Attractions to suffer in the bargain.
Bikes can travel ANYWHERE. So let them have Middle Drive! Build Special Bike Bridges over a few intersections and Bikes can travel across Half the Park, all the way to the Ocean, and Not Encounter Cars. Dreamy!
Rob's comment:
8% of people in the city ride bikes? You can't rely on the MTA and City Hall for that pseudo-fact. See Press Release JournaIism and The Bicyclel Count Report: A closer look, and The 2015 bicycle count: A 7% decrease!
