Unlike Trump, Dr. Fauci is a real leader
A letter to the editor in this morning's Chronicle:
Follow Fauci? No way
For almost a year now, Dr. Anthony Fauci has been telling us how to protect ourselves and stop the spread of the dreaded coronavirus by: wearing a mask, social distancing, washing hands, not touching your face, sneezing and coughing into your elbow and not shaking hands. And close schools and restaurants, don’t travel, cancel Thanksgiving and Christmas with your family, isolate, etc.
So, if Fauci’s recommendations hold any credence, why did he need to jump to the front of the line to get the vaccine? Is he more essential than the rest of us?
Fact is, after telling the rest of us to jump through hoops, this virus in at an all-time high.
Fauci and the rest of the hypocritical politicians should all butt out and let We the People take the precautions we deem necessary.

Rob's comment:
In the United States "we the people"---or at least a substantial minority of the people---are too undisciplined and self-indulgent to follow Dr, Fauci's expert advice to deal with the pandemic.
Fauci is doing what Trump wouldn't do by setting an example for Americans to follow. Many of Trump voters are religious crackpots and anti-vaxers, but many others could have been influenced by good presidential leadership.
Trump couldn't even pretend to care more about the American people than about his own political survival.
Ironically, he probably would have been reelected if he had urged Americans to follow Fauci's advice and set an example for the country to follow.
