City hall fumbles the Jihad issue---again

Even allowing for the fact that our leaders in City Hall aren't the sharpest blades in the drawer, their utterly clueless handling of the Jihad issue is particularly dumb.

The Chronicle also gets it wrong this morning: "Anti-Islam ads return to 10 buses," is the head on the City Insider story, even though the ads are clearly anti-Jihad, not anti-Islam; Islam isn't even mentioned in the ads.

Last year's ad

It's as if Chronicle reporters and editors don't read their own paper---oh, wait, most of the stories about Islamist violence against Christians, Hindus, Buddhists---all other religions, in fact---in Africa, India, Pakistan, Egypt and Indonesia aren't published in the Chronicle. Those of us who read the NY Times see stories every day about Islamic fanatics attacking churches, priests, gays, girls' schools, etc.

Islam has a problem, since extremists of that religion are guilty of almost all the religious violence in the world, including in the US. The City Insider even mentions a few examples of the latter: "The ads, paid for by the controversial American Freedom Defense Initiative, feature photos of Osama bin Laden, a victim of the Fort Hood mass shooting, the Times Square car bomber and others."

Robert Spencer is keeping score. Last year---the list isn't up-to-date---he mentioned other examples of Jihad in the US from adherents of "the religion of peace":
Naser Abdo, the would-be second Fort Hood jihad mass murderer; Khalid Aldawsari, the would-be jihad mass murderer in Lubbock, Texas; Muhammad Hussain, the would-be jihad bomber in Baltimore; Mohamed Mohamud, the would-be jihad bomber in Portland; Faisal Shahzad, the would-be Times Square jihad mass-murderer; Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, the Arkansas military recruiting station jihad murderer; Naveed Haq, the jihad mass murderer at the Jewish Community Center in Seattle; Mohammed Reza Taheri-Azar, the would-be jihad mass murderer in Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Ahmed Ferhani and Mohamed Mamdouh, who hatched a jihad plot to blow up a Manhattan synagogue; Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the would-be Christmas airplane jihad bomber...
The Bay Guardian hasn't taken the bait this year---not yet, anyhow. The SF Weekly, which was dumb and factually incorrect last year, is dumb and wrong again, showing that it still doesn't understand that free speech, First Amendment thing, not to mention Islam and Jihad.

Yes, even statements that make dim-bulb progs uncomfortable are allowed under the Constitution. But that document was written by a bunch of white men, so what do you expect?

The SF Weekly this week:
Last year Muni came under fire, not only for being perpetually broke and late, but also for trying to plug some of its budget woes with pro-Israeli advertisements that suggested Palestinians were savages.
Not even close, since the ad pictured above doesn't mention Palestinians. And of course Muni didn't solicit or even want the ads, which not only upset people like the feeble-minded progs at SF Weekly and the Bay Guardian but only brought in a measly $5,000.

The Chronicle quotes District Attorney Gascon: “These offensive ads serve no purpose than to denigrate our city’s Arab and Muslim communities."

It's not reassuring that the chief law enforcement officer in the city doesn't understand the First Amendment. Neither Arabs nor Muslims are mentioned in the ads. It's about violent Jihad, George:
Muni, which believes a First Amendment court decision obligates it to accept the advertising, promptly announced it would dedicate the $5,000 in ad revenue to the Human Rights Commission for a study of the impact of discrimination on Arab and Islamic communities in San Francisco.
Okay, Muni rolled over for that pesky First Amendment, but it brandished its PC credentials last year by turning over the money to the Human Rights Commission. So where's the promised "study" we paid for last year?

I'd also like to learn about all the alleged discrimination against Arabs and Muslims in San Francisco:
The transit agency will also run its own “Peace” ad campaign that will run inside 100 buses and feature messages against discrimination and promoting respect and love. If this sounds familiar, it should. Back in August, without warning, Muni ran ads from the same group, which the Southern Poverty Law Center has labeled as a hate group. The ad labeled Israel’s opponents “savages.” The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency was deluged with complaints, and eventually ran disclaimer ads next to some of the criticized ads, and donated the $3,800 in ad revenue to the Human Rights Commission.
Now it's only $3,800? That's unexplained. Last year Muni ran the ads "without warning," shocking the delicate sensibilities of city progressives by putting the ads on Muni buses, accompanied by a fatuous disclaimer in case anyone thought the MTA endorsed the idea of opposing violent Jihad against Israel.

"Respect and love"? Violent Jihadists want to kill us just because we are not Muslims and just because we are Americans. Flower Power will availeth us not when dealing with these fanatics.

From the District Attorney's website:
AFDI’s founder Pamela Geller has been deemed an anti-Muslim hate extremist by the Southern Poverty Law Center. In August of 2012, San Franciscans were outraged over AFDI advertisements on MUNI that referred to Arabs and Muslims as “savages.” Arab and Muslim community leaders say the new advertisements are even more offensive as they wrongly suggest that all Muslims are defined by extremism and violence, and baselessly target Arab and Muslim San Franciscans who make invaluable contributions to the city’s life and culture.
The Southern Povery Law Center is as much about fund-raising as it is about fighting intolerance. (See The Church of Morris Dees and Alexander Cockburn's The Conscience Industry.)

The ad pictured above of course doesn't mention Arabs or Muslims. Nor do the latest ad---pictured below---"target" anyone but violent Jihadists. One wonders about Gascon's ability to read the law based on his inability to interpret simple texts like these ads.

More from the D.A.:
Supervisor David Chiu is introducing a resolution to condemn the Islamophobic and racist MUNI Ads at Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting. In response, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Authority will dedicate the proceeds from the offensive advertisements to fund a city-wide study on the impact of discrimination on Arab and Muslim communities. City leaders have met with Council on American-Islamic Relations---San Francisco Bay Area, Asian Law Caucus, the Ramallah Club, the Arab Cultural Center, churches and mosques to discuss targeting of vulnerable communities and the city’s commitment to protecting and standing with those communities.
Another "study" is promised with the ad money? What happened to the last one?

We look forward to Supervisor Chiu's resolution, which will surely be a classic of ProgThink, like the Supervisors' 2005 resolution calling for a new trial for convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal, who is a Muslim, black, and killed a white cop, so he must be innocent. [Later: Chiu's resolution here.]
