SFCTA's Prop. K income

The San Francisco County Transportation Authority (SFCTA) handles the sales tax money from Proposition K for transportation projects in the city.

The SFCTA provided this information on their income for some recent years:

FY09-10: $68,164,315

FY10-11: $75,172,298

FY11-12: $81,164,517

FY12-13: (projected) $84,492,262

FY13-14: (projected) $88,294,414

The Proposition K sales tax income is increasing as we recover from the Great Recession.

The SFCTA is paying the city's share for the Central Subway, which is officially $123 million.

One of the priorities for the Prop. K money was supposed to be maintaining city streets, but the city still supposedly has to borrow money to pave our streets.

According to the MTA's Transportation Fact Sheet, the city collects more than $178 million a year from its parking lots, parking meters, and parking tickets, which is more than it collects in actual Muni fares, less than 25% of its $800 million budget.

How much contempt does the MTA have for its passengers? We have our view of our beautiful "transit first" city obstructed by advertisements on bus windows that bring in a paltry $500,000 a year in a $800 million annual budget.
