A comment to Jonathan Chait's latest column (Trump Sycophants Pleading for Less Coup Talk at Saturday Rally):
DO THEY[concerned Republicans] REALLY THINK they can get the ex-Narcissist-in-Chief interested in anything else on God's green earth other than whether people think he is the Greatest Winner Ever? Do they really know him that poorly? Are they really that stupid?
People: he doesn't care about you.
He does not care about policy. It bores him to tears.
He does not care about America except insofar as he identifies America with himself, which happened when he was President.
He totally does not care about the Republican Party, and never has, and he doesn't care in the slightest whether Republicans win the House in 2022, or any individual Republican does well in 2022 or not.
He is not a team player. Get that into your heads.
HE CARES ABOUT DONALD TRUMP and whether the eyes of the entire universe are directed towards Donald Trump, and whether they are in awe of his incredible brains, strength, manliness and winnerhood.
That is all he has ever cared about, and all he ever will care about.
Is this so hard to understand?
He will never get over the idea that Donald Trump lost an election; the rest of his life will be spent trying to somehow deny or undo that fact.
You may think that because some of this intense psychological need may happen to coincide with the ambitions of the Republican Party, that he makes some kind of common cause with you. You will be wrong.
Rob's comment;
That's all true. But it's also true that much of the Republican Party's base doesn't really care either---about policy, the Republican Party, or the country. They are crazy and stupid like Trump. They are either outright religious fanatics or barely functional neurotics full of hatred for black people, gays, and liberals.
