Why Ross Mirkarimi will never be mayor

Supervisor Mirkarimi is one of the sponsors of the latest insult to city cops, the resolution urging Attorney General Brown to drop charges against some accused of being cop-killers:

090740 [Resolution urging Attorney General Jerry Brown to reject evidence gained through the use of torture] Resolution urging Attorney General Jerry Brown to reject evidence gained through the use of torture and to drop the charges against the "San Francisco 8" defendants. Supervisors Mar, Maxwell, Mirkarimi, Daly presented. RECEIVED AND ASSIGNED to Government Audit and Oversight Committee.

As a Chronicle editorial the other day rightly noted, if the evidence against the accused is tainted, the trial process is the best place to deal with it. There's no statute of limitations on murder, so why should charges be dropped against those accused of killing a city cop?

Mirkarimi seems to go out of his way to insult the SFPD. He supported Josh Wolf's attempt to withhold his tape of an anarchist demonstration during which city cop Peter Shields had his skull fractured by Wolf's pals. Shields was rarely mentioned by Wolfe's supporters. Instead it was all about the alleged persecution of the left-wing media and Wolfe's imaginary right as a blogger to withhold evidence of a crime.

And then there's the anti-American rant by convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal on the SF Green Party's website. You would think that the highest elected Green Party official in San Francisco would use his influence to get his party to dump that rubbish from their website.

And Mirkarimi endorsed a Board of Supervisors' resolution that portrays this convicted cop-killer as a victim of injustice!
