I’m keenly aware of the whole history behind these statues, but it’s just stunning that in the year 2020 there are still people fighting to keep them. Nobody who fought a war of rebellion in the cause of slavery deserves to be glorified. That’s it. There’s no more to the argument. Just take them down. All of them.

White men preaching to and or trying to teach others on racism.
How stupid.
It's your comment that's stupid. It's a white man acknowledging the horror of US history, which is what those monuments are essentially celebrating.
Removal of history is not a way of acknowledgement. That is the way of wanting to change history positive or negative.
Would you like to admit the horrors of your white self since you feel so guilty? Go lynch yourself in support of the last black person that was lynched historically. We’re you ever asked to sit in the back of muni?
Statues and monuments like this are the real attempt to change history by honoring the people behind that treasonous attempt to destroy the United States and save slavery.
I only feel guilty for my own wrongdoing. But as a young man I was horrified---I'm still horrified---to learn what a nightmare American racial history is. It's welcome news that the polls show that a lot of people now want it to stop, beginning with holding police accountable for their behavior.
