The Murk abandons the Green Party

Supervisor Mirkarimi called the Guardian's Tim Redmond to announce that he's abandoning the Green Party and registering as a Democrat.

Seems like only yesterday when the Murk was talking revolution to the Peoples Party convention.

What, by the way, ever happened to the Peoples Party? Seems like Mirkarimi and other city progressives finally understand that their brand of radical politics will never fly, even here in Progressive Land. Mirkarimi thinks that the Green Party label won't be helpful when he runs for higher office, which is the only reason he's dumping the Greens. And he made the announcement by leaving a message on Tim Redmond's answering machine rather than at a press conference, where he would have had to answer tough questions about the move.

It's not the label - it's the $$$. Transparent, but you can't really blame him.

Good point. But we can blame him for a lack of principles.
