It's wrong under either Obama or Trump. Agreed?

But your link includes this:

"To be clear: the Obama administration’s use of ATEP[Alien Transfer Exit Program] was not intended to break-up families–--that was an occasionally expected side effect–--while Trump’s recently-confirmed policy is expressly directed toward that end in the name of deterrence.”

Agreed.

"Was not intended to break-up families"

Nothing is ever "intended". Weak defense. I do not agree that a child should be separated from their mother under any administration. What pisses me off is everyone acting like we are obligated to help some folks that made the personal choice to travel from El Salvador to the border yet they can't get one tent off the streets.

This issue is being used to attack an administration they don't like. How about get these fucking needles and homeless off the streets first before jumping in front of a camera and start preaching.

You're talking about different "theys." Immigration is enforced by the federal government, and it's city government that grapples with the homeless and the druggies.

We just need to keep plugging away on the homeless issue. More bus tickets outtahere under Homeward Bound, more shelter beds, more outreach, more money from the feds, etc. Homelessness is a national problem and no one city has the resources to deal with it alone. There are marginal people and the soon-to-be homeless are arriving here ever day.

Consider these numbers for the last ten years: The city has housed 11,362 homeless single adults and sent an another 8,086 home on the bus to receptive friends or family under the Homeward Bound program.

San Francisco is a rich city, but even it can't afford to provide housing for everyone who ends up homeless on its streets.

On the street junkie problem: I'd bust people for shooting up in public and put them in a city jail cell to kick---under medical supervision, of course. Like the naked guys in the Castro---who should be cited and fined---this is about not letting either group violate social standards with impunity.

Maybe the shooting-up issue has to go on the ballot, like the sit-lie issue---so that city voters can tell City Hall what standards to enforce.

No public nudity, except at special events, like the Folsom Street Fair. And no shooting up in public should be among those standards.
