Pelosi stands up to China---and President Biden

From the Washington Post:

....Pelosi had made clear to White House officials that she was willing to reconsider her trip under two conditions: if the president directly asked the 82-year-old lawmaker not to go or if Taiwan’s president withdrew her invitation.

She would consider acquiescing to a request from Biden, she told officials, but Pelosi also made clear she would publicize that she was scuttling her trip to Taiwan at the president’s behest.

That put Biden — who served 36 years in the Senate and believes strongly in the separation of powers — in a difficult position. If it became public that he did not want Pelosi to visit, it would risk making Biden and the United States look weak on China, experts said.

In the end, Biden never spoke to Pelosi about her trip despite Xi’s request that he prevent it from happening. In an offhand comment, Biden told reporters shortly before Pelosi’s expected visit that military officials believed the trip was not a good idea....

Rob's comment:
Why did the Post think it was necessary to cite Pelosi's age and not President Biden's? After all, at 79 Biden is the oldest US president in history.

To answer your question it is because they know Pelosi will be on her way out after losing the house in the midterms. As to says old she’s 82 so we understand her retirement. I’m sure some huge Hollywood production will come out at that time about her career on media outlets the biggest thing to happen since WW2. Biden will still be around for another two years. So let’s hide the fact that he’s the oldest president to serve rather than stating the truth that the guy needs a retirement home or an in house nurse to change his diapers. They don’t want the guy to look worse off than he already is.

The notion that Pelosi will be a Hollywood star is just silly. Biden is actually looking very good. Who do the Repugs have to run against him in 2024, assuming, which is uncertain, he's even a candidate? Trump again? Desantis? The Repugs problem: They don't have a deep bench.

Trump and DeSantis are the powerhouses of the Republican Party. Something democrats do not have. Sure there may be a whole list of people that would like to run mainly the folks that tried in 2016 but got knocked off early no one liked. They have no one that would even make a dent except for maybe with the hardcore democrat base.

Biden is pretty unpopular, no democrat wants to answer the question if he should run again, none want him speaking at their midterm campaigns which says a lot. I think democrats are keeping quiet about it until after the midterms and then scramble for a replacement. Possibly Warren Newsom. They won’t even come close to winning. Unless something seriously changes in the next two years only shot democrats may have at winning in 2024 is congress & senate. There will be a lot more younger progressive/leftist in those races. Which will cause more problems for them as we see now there’s a lot of pushing back and forth between the current progressives and the main stream democrats. It is going to be a shit show.
