The Honolulu rail fiasco

Randal O'Toole tried to warn Honolulu about this dumb project way back in 2012.  (I agreed and linked his posts on the project.)

Alas, he was ignored. He blogs about the result today: A Billion Here, a Billion There... The cost of the Honolulu project will now be more than $10 billion!

Also too bad California didn't listen to O'Toole in 2008 about its plan for the dumb high-speed rail project.

See also Biden, Streetsblog, and high-speed rail.

There was some research done in the 70's (I think) that said voters would approve transit projects because they thought it would get people off the freeways and make there OWN commute better. People won't get out of their cars...at least not in this country. How unfortunate that we are spending $Billions on infrastructure that likely will never meet its ridership estimates that the paid transportation consultants fed the local officials.

Heck...Marin County is still trying to figure out what to do with its light rail, at least they didn't go over the $Billion number (only like $600M LOL) to build it...but with the amount it takes to subsidize each trip i would guess that over the next decade or so they will.
