Santa Anas will curl your hair---and burn your house

“Throw up into your typewriter every morning. Clean up every noon.” — Raymond Chandler - The New York Times
Raymond Chandler:

There was a desert wind blowing that night. It was one of those hot dry Santa Anas that come down through the mountain passes and curl your hair and make your nerves jump and your skin itch. On nights like that every booze party ends in a fight. Meek little wives feel the edge of the carving knife and study their husbands' necks. Anything can happen. You can even get a full glass of beer at a cocktail lounge.

Yes, pretty good movie. Interesting to see Harry Dean Stanton in a small role. I saw the movie in the theater in West Portal when it was first released more than 40 years ago.

But I prefer Bogart in The Big Sleep. Critics complain about the confusing/confused plot, but that misses the point, which is mostly about Bogart and Bacall.

See Mitchum in his last movie, the underrated Dead Man.
