Kezar Stadium update
Kezar Stadium has been closed to the public since September so that the city can replace the old track. An update from Rec and Park says it will be ready "mid-March."
[Later: Along with providing some interesting background, the Haight Ashbury Voice tells us that an opening ceremony will happen on March 13.]
A SF Chronicle story on the project.

Never really understood why they needed to redo the track - track seemed in pretty good shape to me.
Yes, the "dangerous level of disrepair" seems like hype. I used the old track regularly, and it was a little ragged along the seams here and there but hardly dangerous. Maybe it's about holding serious track meets where the condition of the track can be an issue when time records are important. But to us ordinary joggers it was fine.
Anyhow, looking forward to running on the new surface.
After my first visit, I can report that the new track at Kezar is very fine indeed.
