How safe is the artificial turf on your child's sports field?
On NBC last night, this video report raises good questions about the safety of the material used to make artificial turf.
The issue is on next month's ballot in San Francisco as Proposition H, an initiative that raises that concern (See the page 129 of the Voter Information Pamphlet).

let me guess, you're against the turf fields in golden gate park that kids will play sports on? maybe you're against it because you dont have kids?
This is about the ingredients of the artificial turf the city wants to use, not about "turf" in general. Why not real grass? Because the drones in City Hall don't want to pay for the upkeep on real grass.
So we should pay big bucks for real grass - which causes a disproportionate amount of ACL injuries because it is so hard to maintain, but we should cut funding for ped safety. I see
I'm surprised the bike people aren't against the plastic fields since includes a LOT of new paved parking spaces within the park near the soccer complex. Also, the cost of the plastic fields is at least 10 times that of restoring the turf. New York and Los Angeles are already ripping these plastic cancer causing fields out, but leave it to San Francisco to be putting one in.
