Coming soon: West Span bike path study

Below is an exchange of messages with the MTC engineer who's going to release the long-awaited $1.3 million study on the idea of adding a bike/pedestrian lane to the west span of the Bay Bridge. The Bicycle Coalition uses a $225 million estimate for what that will cost, but the higher range estimate is $390 million. Seems like a lot of money, but the Bicycle Coalition thinks $225 million is just "a drop in the bucket," which makes $390 million two drops in the bucket. Some drops, some bucket.

Mr. Lee:

What's the status of the study on adding a bike/pedestrian pathway to the West Span of the Bay Bridge? If the study is completed, could you provide a link to it?

Regards,
Rob Anderson

Rob,

The study is not complete, and we plan on holding a public outreach meeting in October to review some of the findings in the study. Date and time to be determined, but likely in San Francisco.

Thank you for your interest.
