I'm imagining an open mic night where Rob channels Sams ghost and his topic is urban cyclists. Maybe with a little Don Rickles thrown in for good measure.
When did it become fashionable to preface an opinion with "I'm sorry"? A similarly annoying verbal tic: commenters here and elsewhere are so "sad" at something or other, usually about an opinion/event they don't approve of. The passive/aggressive language of therapy and self-esteem manuals is contaminating public discourse.
What the fuck are you talking about? Actually, no, swearing doesn't contaminate public discourse as much as the trendy diction of the barely verbal generation.
What you probably meant to say re Kinison is that you didn't find his riff on marriage funny. I did but his riff on famine in North Africa was unfunny and stupid, which doesn't mean that he was a "disgusting, foul creep" as a person. Since I didn't know him personally, I can't say that. All I can say is that to me sometimes he was very funny. Ditto for Lenny Bruce, who, if a fraction of what's been printed about him is true, had serious shortcomings as a person, but he could still be very funny. Roman Polanski may be a creep, but Chinatown is still a great movie. Mel Gibson may be an abusive mate and Christian crackpot, but Road Warrior is still a fine movie, etc.
I don't much mind being wrong on this. Kinison may have been "a disgusting foul creep," but I have to admit he could make me laugh. Anyone you would have offended by that opinion---a defensible one that I happen to disagree with---is someone you shouldn't worry about offending. You need a little more attitude and a little less timidity in expressing your opinions. I just think that people aren't all one thing. We're all an uncanny and often disconcerting mix of good and bad qualities.

When did it become fashionable to swear at people? Does that not contaminate public discourse?

Well, I think you're wrong on that one Rob.
I was trying to be somewhat "polite" to others as not to offend them too much when I said Kinison was a disgusting, foul creep.
But I meant what I said and still do. I could not stand his brand of raunchy "humor"..he was a disgusting foul creep.

That's much better.
