City Place hearing on July 8

The CityPlace proposal for the most blighted part of Market Street will be considered by the San Francisco Planning Commission at City Hall on the afternoon of July 8, 2010. I'm not a fan of more chain stores, but I agree this should move forward. I hope they shut down the porn houses nearby, however.

Cityplace NEEDED 200 spots or the 0project would not make sense. Of course, they are now going ahead with the project anyway, despite a reduction to 167.

We pushed on planning because it worked. The city is still getting the development, with 16% less parking. Frankly, Cityplace would have built it with the 70 spaces that zoning allowed - the city buckled for no good reason.

I assume that CityPlace came in with a high estimate on parking so that they could do this kind of "compromise" to look reasonable before the Planning Commission. I don't think the Commission would have had the guts to block this much-needed project because of parking, but I would have liked it better if CityPlace called the city's bluff on the parking. The resulting shit-storm would have revealed you folks as the crackpots that you really are.
