Debunking peak oil

Interesting new battery with tremendous potential:Ceramatec sodium-sulphur battery: In a modest building on the west side of Salt Lake City, a team of specialists in advanced materials and electrochemistry has produced what could be the single most important breakthrough for clean, alternative energy since Socrates first noted solar heating 2,400 years ago...

Wow. If that's for real, it's a total game-changer.

Great! But what does that have to do with oil peaking?

That's very impressive and will have a huge impact on the energy industry.

However it doesn't remove the peak oil situation. At best batteries like this will soften the impact of peak oil.

I'm also wondering about the availability of materials for these batteries. What quantity of sodium is required for each battery and what would be the environmental consequences of that much sodium production from say common salt?

Check out the link I provide for the blog, Debunking Peak Oil. This guy claims that the peak oil problem is not in fact going to be that big of a problem, that we have enough supply and enough technology to have a soft landing.

Who is "this guy"? Why do you consider him to be more credible on this topic than say, Andy Thornley is on traffic engineering? Aside from the fact you like what you hear...

All Andy Thornley does is put an acceptable PR patina on the crackpot bike agenda, as opposed to Leah Shahum, who tends to shrillness. Why don't you examine this guy's blog, Murph? I know it's tough for a know-it-all like you to make room in your tiny little mind for new information and ideas, but the effort must be made.
