No riots over the murder of white cops
A letter in yesterday's Chronicle (below) raised some interesting questions about the murder of four Oakland cops.
And, just as important, they were white men killed by a black man, which, in the minds of the Oscar Grant rioters, means the event doesn't qualify for a riot:
Just Cops
Four Oakland police officers are dead. They were just men doing their jobs---trying to help make Oakland a better, safer place to live.
But in his reckless, self-centered and hateful mind, one criminal punk made a conscious decision to murder these men. It wasn't an accident; he hadn't meant to pull his toothbrush and mistakenly grabbed his gun. He intentionally killed these men to avoid going back to prison for violating his parole.
So where's the outrage, Oakland? Is the "community" going to riot in the streets, break windows and burn cars over this? No. They only do that when it suits them. Besides, they were just cops, right?

Oscar Grant was murdered and the black community - which Oscar belonged to, protested BART, which Mehserle belonged to.
Some lowlife scum murders four cops (doesn't matter if they are black or white), I predict that Oakland PD will protest other lowlife scum in their own way. Nudge nudge know what I mean.
Perhaps you can say the Oakland PD already protested Mixon's killing the four cops by busting a few caps in his ass.
What did Mike Pardee expect - for all of Rockridge to march on International Blvd and burn some crack houses?
We can always depend on you, Murph, for the conventional prog interpretation of events, which, as usual, is wrong. The notion that the rioters who trashed part of downtown Oakland recently---including black-owned shops and businesses---represented something called "the black community" is dubious. Instead, the violent protests were apparently led and manned by political thugs of the Al Sharpton variety. They are not likely to concern themselves with the murder of white cops. The reality is that black communities---including here in San Francisco---are being held hostage by a minority of what I call Punks with Guns.
"represented something called "the black community" is dubious."
Agreed - syntax error on my part.
Actually the protests were organized if I recall correctly by a bunch of white kids from Seattle. A minority of what I call Punks with Lattes.
I believe the author has a fundamental misunderstanding of why riots occur.
I wonder if we should be grateful that only 60 Oaklanders protested in celebration of the murder of the policemen...
