What does IPV mean? And in cases that list death by "fall" I wondered how a person could fall and die. Maybe some of these are falls/jumps from heights?
In social services parlance, that acronym means "intimate partner violence." But it's not clear that that's what it means in this context. Nor is it clear exactly what "fall" encompasses, whether it means a fall from a height or simply falling on the sidewalk.
What is clear: these are not simply poor people who couldn't afford housing, since most of these deaths are drug and/or alcohol related, which the forms clearly state. On the forms where it isn't clearly stated, I bet it's also a major factor in these deaths.
Another thing that isn't clear: how many of these people could have been helped off the street under Laura's Law, which enables authorities to intervene when someone is clearly off his/her meds and/or not able to care for himself/herself. I hope the city is going to begin to aggressively enforce this state law.
Interesting that Mayor Newsom said that his new chief of staff, Trent Rhorer "will get us to the next level of our homeless policy." I hope that this was a reference to Laura's Law.
Thank you so much for mentioning their names. Bradley Waitt is my dad and I didn't find out he died until much later. I had never even known he was homeless. My parents divorced when I was young and he stopped seeing me when his living conditions were deemed unsuitable. He was very much loved and I'm so sorry that he died alone. I don't know much about Laura's Law but I support it and will do all I can so that others who are off their meds can be helped, especially when my dad wasn't. Do you have any updates on the situation and what I can do?

I just wanted to let Bradley Waitt's daughter know her father was not homeless. He left Pennsylvania for the soul purpose of going to golden gate park to committ suicide which he did. You can blame your mother for your not being able to see him, there was no reason for that... But rest assure he did not have to be there and if you recieved the coroner's report you would see that it was suicide and not what everyone is wanting you to believe...
